1.Purpose of this Policy

Atlanta Guest House uses CCTV where reasonably necessary to help protect guests, proprietors and authorised persons, the premises, property and belongings, and the security and peaceful operation of the guest house.

2.Who Is Responsible for CCTV

Nicermer Hotels Ltd, trading as Atlanta Guest House, is responsible for the operation of CCTV where it determines how and why footage is processed. Questions may be directed to stay@atlantaeastbourne.com.

3.Why We Use CCTV

CCTV may be used for safety and security, preventing and detecting crime, deterring unauthorised entry, protecting guests and property, investigating theft, damage or serious incidents, investigating significant breaches of guest-house rules, responding to safety concerns and assisting competent authorities where lawful and appropriate.

4.Lawful Basis

Our usual lawful basis for CCTV processing is our legitimate interests in protecting guests, people, premises and property and maintaining the security of Atlanta Guest House. We consider whether CCTV is necessary and proportionate.

5.Areas Covered

Cameras may operate in appropriate external or communal areas, which may include entrances and exits, external approaches, reception or entrance areas, hallways, stairways and other appropriate communal or security-sensitive areas. Camera positions should be limited so far as reasonably possible to areas which genuinely require surveillance.

6.Private Areas

CCTV is not intended to operate inside guest bedrooms. CCTV will not ordinarily be used in toilets, bathrooms or other areas in which individuals would reasonably expect a high degree of privacy.

7.Audio Recording

CCTV audio recording will not be routinely used unless there is a specific, lawful and proportionate reason for doing so.

8.CCTV Signage

Appropriate signage will be displayed to inform people that CCTV is operating. Signs should be reasonably visible and identify the purpose of CCTV and how further information can be obtained.

9.Access to CCTV

Access to recorded footage is restricted. Only persons who have a legitimate reason to access the system should be permitted to view, retrieve or disclose footage. Footage must not be viewed out of curiosity, used for entertainment or placed on social media without a proper lawful basis.

10.Storage and Security

CCTV recordings must be stored securely and protected against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or loss. Reasonable safeguards may include password protection, restricted administrator access, secure recording equipment, secure cloud systems where applicable and appropriate physical protection of recording equipment.

11.Retention

CCTV recordings will be retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which they were recorded. The system should be configured to delete or overwrite routine footage after the chosen operational retention period. Footage may be preserved for longer where reasonably required in connection with an incident, crime, property damage, complaint, insurance matter, legal dispute, safeguarding concern or request from a competent authority.

12.Sharing CCTV Footage

CCTV recordings are not routinely disclosed to third parties. They may be disclosed where lawful and reasonably necessary, including to police, emergency services, courts or tribunals, insurers, solicitors or professional advisers, competent regulatory or statutory authorities, or persons exercising valid data-protection rights.

13.Police Requests

Where police request CCTV footage, Atlanta Guest House may provide relevant footage where there is an appropriate legal basis for disclosure. We may retain a record of the request and disclosure.

14.Subject Access Requests

Individuals may have a right to request a copy of CCTV footage containing their personal information. To help locate footage, we may request the date, approximate time, location, description of the person concerned and appropriate evidence of identity.

15.Preservation Requests

If you believe CCTV footage may be relevant to a serious incident or dispute, please contact us promptly. Routine footage may be automatically overwritten as part of normal system operation.

16.Use of Footage for Guest-House Incidents

Where a serious incident occurs, CCTV footage may be reviewed for establishing what happened, protecting guests or property, investigating unauthorised entry, alleged damage, serious misconduct, or dealing with an insurance or legal claim. Any use must remain relevant and proportionate.

17.Regular Review

The need for CCTV and the way cameras are positioned and operated should be reviewed periodically, including necessity, camera angles, security arrangements, retention and signage/privacy information.

18.Data-Protection Rights

CCTV information is personal information where an individual can be identified. Individuals may therefore have rights under UK data-protection law, as explained further in our Privacy Notice.

19.Complaints

Any concern regarding our use of CCTV should initially be raised with Atlanta Guest House at stay@atlantaeastbourne.com. Individuals may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office where appropriate.
